Teachers Sharing Tech Tools
by Lise Kuhn

Teachers have been working hard to find creative and workable solutions for all of the professional shifts and changes that we have been living through since the pandemic began. It has been a challenge to find ways to address equity and differentiation, to maintain connected relationships with our students and to engage them effectively online.

Many of us have been feeling bombarded by tech-training and digital PD sessions. Under current conditions, it is hard to find the time to take a breath, let alone the time to integrate new tech tools into our daily teaching practices. With so much Ed Tech out there, it is difficult to choose which tools are worth our time and energy.

This is where ATEQ’s curated list of Hybrid and Online Teaching Resources, created by and for English teachers in Quebec, comes in.

Each resource listed has been used and recommended by a teacher in the province. These are the tools that teachers are really using, whether it be to access digital reading resources, to offer ways for students to collaborate remotely, to do our own PD and more.

Our Hybrid and Online Teaching Resources list features fantastic general resources like The Hybrid Teacher Survival Guide by Emma Pass, an amazingly useful, free and comprehensive online guide that will be useful to technophobes and the more tech savvy alike.

Do you need new sources for audio books and online texts? Our list suggests using online poetry from the Poetry Foundation, online animé at Webtoons and reading passages from CommonLit, organized by grade and Lexile reading level.

Do you need new ideas for student production in a hybrid context (a situation involving in-person and online teaching)? Why not use Piktochart or Canva and have students make infographics or use Jamboard to have students collaborate on a project online?

Do you want to improve your video-making skills? Our list will point you to Screencastify and an accompanying eBook, which helps teachers make videos for teaching asynchronously. Our list also features a Video Production section highlighting tools that can make video production more engaging for students.

We can all benefit from sharing resources from teacher-to-teacher, particularly in these moments where we may feel more isolated than ever. We encourage you to share the Ed Tech resources and tools that you have found most useful and help us make this list an ongoing, collaborative tool.

You can submit resources to the submit a resource tab on our website.
