  • Kevin Wright, teacher at Chambly Academy, received the NCTE High School Teacher of Excellence Award. The award was presented by Keith Younker (left), Co-Chair of the HS Teacher of Excellence Committee, in San Antonio, Texas. This is a fitting tribute to a dedicated educator. Congratulations Kevin.

  • Writing Workshop – October 1, 2008

    Local young adult authors Monique Polak and Lori Weber are going to be teaching an 8 week course entitled Tales for Teens: Writing Young Adult Fiction at the Quebec Writers' Foundation on Wednesday nights from 6 - 8, beginning Wed, October 1st.

    They will cover all the conventional aspects of the genre; how to generate ideas, the writing and editing process, appropriate language, dealing with sensitive issues, and the publishing aspects.

  • Persephone Production Presents…

    In November 2008, Persephone Productions ( www.persephoneproductions.org ) will perform Othello by William Shakespeare at the Armand Bombardier Theatre of the McCord Museum .

    Shakespeare's great masterpiece features a cast of nine and a design team of four in this production, directed by Gabrielle Soskin, artistic director of Persephone Productions.

    In addition to showcasing young actors, Persephone's mandate is to foster the talents of youth in fields complementary to the theatre, e.g. marketing, design, and music. 

    Expect a remarkable performance, sure to engage your students.
    Make a day of it - visit the museum in the morning and attend the play in the afternoon.

  • 2008 NCTE annual convention will take place November 20-23,2008 - San Antonio, Texas.

    NCTE Section Teacher of Excellence award will be given to Kevin Wright, Chambly Academy teacher, Riverside School Board. This award will be presented as part of the festivities of the Secondary Section Luncheon to be held in San Antonio at the NCTE Convention on November 22, 2008.

    ATEQ-APPLE WORKSHOP: August 20/21, 2008

    The Association of Teachers of English of Quebec is pleased to invite all teachers to a free workshop on August 20th and 21st, 2008.
    You will have an opportunity to learn how to use different computer software in your classroom. In addition, we will teach you how to create book trailers with your students.
    Lunch is included and there will also be prizes.

  • WHAT IS AMEQ?
  • The Association for Media Education in Quebec (AMEQ) has been, since its conception in September 1990, working to develop and promote Media Literacy in elementary and high school in the province of Quebec

    As well, as a co-founder and Board Member of the Canadian Association for Media Organisations, (CAMEO) AMEQ has been and is instrumental in working with provincial Media Education associations in developing curriculum and programs for teachers and students across Canada.

    In the past members of AMEQ have included elementary and high schoolteachers, university and CEGEP educators, media researchers and professionals, university students, Quebec Ministry of Education representatives and parents.

    Some of the activities, which AMEQ has provided over the last sixteen years include, but is not limited to,

    • Media Literacy conferences for teachers, parents and community workers
    • Student media festivals
    • Workshops at provincial and national education conferences
    • In school-board professional development programs
    • Media Literacy courses in faculties of education at universities in Quebec and internationally.
