ATEQ-EMSB Literary Joint Venture: Book Trunks
by Anne Beamish

One of THE best-loved resources for English Language Arts teachers is getting a bit of a makeover. Our book trunks have seen many miles and many classrooms over the years and they were starting to look a little tired, so we decided they were in need of a little TLC. We are renewing some of our existing Book Trunks such as “Poetry Picks” and “All YAL” and creating new ones for the 2019/2020 and 2020-2021 school years. Our volunteer Book Trunk committee set a lofty task for themselves.

Enter our new intern. Summer has taken on the role of ATEQ intern as part of her work-study project at Venture High School in Montreal. Venture is one of the Outreach and Social Affairs schools in the EMSB. These schools offer students the opportunity to engage in work study placements that allow them to build skills and workplace experience as part to the Work-Oriented Training Path (WOTP).

Summer’s placement is in-house and we think it is a good match. Her Head Teacher, Lindsay Hogan states: “She loves to read!”, so working with books is a perfect fit. Since Summer is used to the school environment, she is able to focus on her work more effectively in a comfortable setting. ATEQ Vice-President Lise Kuhn gives Summer her weekly work assignments and provides guidance and supervision. In just a few short weeks, the book summaries are being uploaded to the ATEQ website and she will soon begin preparing the books to join their trunkmates. Summer will be helping to send the Book Trunks out to schools across Quebec.

ATEQ would like to thank Summer, Lise Kuhn, and Lindsay Hogan for their time and hard work.
